I love weekend packages. There’s something exciting about just hopping a plane or planning a last minute excursion that brings out that adventurous spirit in us all. We all like the ultimate road trip ideal of tossing our stuff in the car and heading for a coast somewhere, right? But working out the details in a normal life can be a headache. What airline has the best deal? What rental car services offer unlimited mileage and are in close proximity to the airport? Where on the planet is the best place to go for my money? What is there to see and do?
It might take you a month to research these things, all the while rates are changing and hotels book up. Somehow that adventurous spirit dies a bit, after all the detailing.
That’s why I love companies that offer travel packages, particularly last minute ones. Most of the preliminary work is done for you. My favorite is Travelocity.com, hands down. If you go to their page and select “last minute packages” at the top, and enter your departing city, Travelocity does it all for you, with bits of travel wisdom and light hearted quips.
You’ve got your choice of travel dates, though Travelocity wisely gives you the best rates first. Thinking of traveling next weekend? Take a peek today and see what’s available. In a recent search of departures from Indianapolis, Travelocity pulled 252 tantalizing choices, beginning with trips (inclusive air, hotel, taxes and transfers) for $200, though most were around $300 average. Pick outstanding stops like Southern California’s Laguna Beach; Bar Harbor Maine; Nashville, Tennessee; Boston,; Massachusetts; Las Vegas, Nevada or Washington, D.C. to name a few. Click on the links and see the suggested dining, hot spots and advice on local fun, nature trails, or free stuff to see and do.
Literally, they boast, if you’d really like to be a free spirit, you can book by noon on a Friday and be at your destination by the evening for cheap. It’s a great way to take a mini fall vacation before the holidays overwhelm us and weather forces us to put our traveling on hold. Take a spin on their spot today, be in Miami by tomorrow!
